Barack Obama is the Democratic president-elect of the United States. He won the 2008 US general election on November 5, 2008. He is the first African American that got nominated by a major political party for president. After graduating from Columbia University and Harvard Law School, Obama taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School for 7 years. He worked as a community organizer in Chicago from 1985-88. Following his unsuccessful bid to the House of Representatives in 2000 he got elected to the Senate in 2004 with 70% votes. In the 110th Congress he helped legislation regarding lobbying and electoral fraud, climate change, and nuclear terrorism. As the presidential candidate he put forward energy independence, universal healthcare and a decrease in the influence of lobbyists as his priorities.
